Use your Mac from anywhere

Tailscale on, open Qispi (on an iPad, an iPhone or another Mac) and tap your Mac on the home page. Qispi asks for Face ID or your passcode first (you can turn that off in Settings › Remote), and the llama walks while it connects. You see your Mac’s screen a moment later.

If the connection drops, Qispi reconnects by itself.

  • Tap to click; tap twice to double-click.
  • Touch and move to drag.
  • Two fingers to scroll.
  • Touch and hold to right-click.
  • On an iPhone, pinch to zoom in on part of the screen, and move two fingers to look around.

Qispi on a Mac shows the other Mac full screen, with this Mac’s own keyboard, mouse and trackpad: clicks, right-clicks, scrolling, and every key as it is, so ⌘-shortcuts, ⌘-drag and ⇧-click work as at the Mac itself. ⌘,: Settings; ⌃⌥⌘H: back to Qispi’s home page; ⌃⌥⌘D: disconnect. Qispi asks for Touch ID or your password before connecting.

A trackpad or mouse on the iPad moves your Mac’s pointer. A keyboard types in your iPad’s layout, with your Mac’s shortcuts. Hold ⌘, ⇧, ⌥ or ⌃ while you click or drag, as on a Mac.

iPadOS keeps ⌘-Tab and ⌘-Space for itself, so use ⌥-Tab and ⌥-Space instead: they switch apps and open Spotlight on your Mac.

The round ⋯ button at the edge of the screen holds everything else:

  • Show Keyboard for the on-screen keyboard.
  • Show Shortcut Bar: ⌃ ⌥ ⇧ ⌘ (tap one to hold it for the next click or key), Escape, ⌘-Tab, Spotlight, Mission Control, arrows, undo, copy, paste, and Force Quit for a stuck app. Drag the bar by its grip to either edge.
  • Play Sound Here or on the Mac, Diagnostics, Settings, Home.
  • Switch to Another Mac, when you’ve paired more than one.
  • Update the Mac, when there’s a newer Qispi Host.
  • The clipboard goes both ways. Copy on the Mac, paste on the iPad. Copy on the iPad, and ⌘V on the Mac pastes it.
  • Your Mac’s sound plays on your iPad, and the Mac stays quiet while you’re connected.
  • Your iPad’s microphone and camera can be used by your Mac’s apps (FaceTime, Zoom, Photo Booth), as Qispi Microphone and Qispi Camera. Install them once from Qispi Host’s menu › Camera and Microphone. They only turn on while an app on the Mac is using them.
